The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

Day 1

Porter's road trip, sans wife, actually began with the 6:30 flight from AVL. Arrived in SEA, one of America's more beautiful cities, at 1:00.

After the obligatory rental car upgrade (Subaru Tribeca) drove straight to Baker, and skied in the Baker backcountry.

Slept in the car, and had chips and salsa and beer for dinner.

Day 2

Copious amounts of new snow overnight left the access road looking like this ...

And the parking lot like this ...

And the ski area like this ...

Baker's base that day was 224 inches. Nice place, but an aggressive group of skiers and boarders hang out there.

Slept in the car. Had sandwiches and beer for dinner.

Day 3

Up very early to drive through Puget Sound traffic toward Stevens. The bottom of the canyon looks like this ...

Stevens is a great place, though a bit on the corporate side. Lots of wide open terrain, great cruisers, and some real steeps. Huge area.

Slept in the car. Had chips and salsa and sandwiches and beer for dinner.

Day 4

Up with the sun to ski in the Stevens backcountry. Lots of wild terrain, and great views.

Got back to the car around 1 pm and drove to Leavenworth, where I checked out the local rope tow hill, then drove to rather dour Wenatchee (dour compared to most other cities in Washington) and then on to Mt. Badger, a local ski hill near Waterville. Skinned it, as the T-bar was not operating. Then, drove over Blewett Pass to Snoqualmie Pass. Slept in the car. Had sandwiches and beer for dinner.

To be continued ...
