Luckily, the injuries weren't nearly as bad as might be expected from the video. CNN is covering the story. Rollbacks are very scary!

I had honestly never thought about a rollback incident before this vid. Saw this over on TGR and like the comments there, major props to those who bailed before being slung around the bullwheel.

Got confirmation on another ski forum that the people watching near the base were all yelling "JUMP!" at the people who were in the chairs getting close to the base. Saw a video from a different angle that made it clear that towards the end there was at most 10 sec from the time a chair passed the second tower to where it was low enough to jump relatively safely. Clearly it was better to drop skis or snowboards before jumping.

There was a rollback at Sugarloaf in Maine in 2015. But didn't last nearly as long. People jumped in that case too. End result was that the lower terminal was rebuilt.

I worked at sugar 13-14 years ago and we had a roll back one night. Thank God nobody was on it and it didn’t last long. Slung the cable off the bull wheel up top and had to use the winch cat to get it back on.
