The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

My friend Mike and I traded our wagon for a sweet little moped and drove down to Aspen on Friday morning. Despite the complete lack of snow for 4-5 days and temps hitting the 30's, our plan was to hit Aspen Highlands on Friday and Snowmass on Saturday.

Mission accomplished. All told, we skied over 40k vert, hiked close to 2k, and found some pretty solid snow considering the conditions. For those of you who haven't been to Aspen... go. Forget the I-70 resorts- pay a little extra and go to Aspen. Seriously.

Mike totally redeems himself on a little Temerity terrain to start the day:

According to the map we've only gone 4 inches- starting the Highland Bowl hike: 30 minutes, 800 vert, and about 2000 calories.

I expected the Rocky Mountains to be a little rockier than this- the view at the top:

Yeah, that John Denver's full of sh*t man.

Ever seen a bathroom with a better view?

Oh yeah- the skiing kicks a$$ too!

Highland Bowl: Just like Vail's back bowls.... except you get more snow, less people, and its twice as steep. :)

4 days after the storm and we're still finding some pretty soft stuff:

Slippy, swamy, snappy.... I know its here somewhere. Here it is: Samsonite!

Where the beer flows like wine.

I don't know Lloyd, the French are a$$holes (Mike in Hanging Valley on Snowmass).

Yeah, he must work out.

A quick hike to the top of Snowmass gets you some views too:

Dropping into AMF.... apparently the steepest run on Snowmass, around 40+ degrees.

Last run of the day, still good snow:

4000 vert later and we were at the bottom:

Mary and I went skiing, we made a snowman, she touched my leg...

After skiing Friday, Mike and I went to a party hosted by the Aspen Historical Society, I sh*t you not. We looked for the pair of hooters, but no luck. Maybe next time.

If you say go to aspen --I believe and the pictures back it up, amazing stuff -- I have know idea what half the captions mean

I have never found a reasonable way to manage an aspen trip but maybe next year I'll try harder

Without traffic, how long a drive from denver, or last say how long past the Tunnel

We made it from Denver to Aspen Highlands in 3.5 hours, and that was with a stop for breakfast (so minus 15 minutes or so). Snowmass is about 15 minutes closer.

You could probably stay in Glenwood Springs or Carbondale fairly cheap- and from there its a 30-40 minute drive.
