We gave Wintergreen a shot this morning. Certainly had fresh snow from Thu and Fri. It was a surprise that Tyro was open. The locals at the Ski Barn said they saw cars coming off the mountain yesterday with at least 3 inches on them. One man told them he thought there was more in places.

But the problem was the rain got going too early. Light drizzle until noon, but we were getting pretty wet after that. Needless to say, very few people. Marz Jr wasn't having much fun on the Highlands. Temps around 34 so she was cold. Also she didn't like not being able to see much since there was fog and clouds on most of the mountain. No pics of 20 yard visibility. Only relatively clear spot was on top of Dobie when we headed to the parking lot around 1:30.

While there were thin spots and marked areas to avoid, the open trails were fine in terms of amount of snow. Still worth the drive for a last day. Made good use of the new goggles from the Beech Summit auction. :)

Photos taken at 9:30am just before the clouds rolled in.

Yep, that was the last ski trip for this winter. Marz Jr is ready for other things, especially a sleepover we've been putting off since Dec.

The high speed lift at Highlands is what makes Wgreen appealing to me. Same drive as going to Beech but much shorter lines on a weekend. Even considering a season pass next winter since pass holders can ski Sundays starting at 12:30. For $219, wouldn't take too make days to make it a good idea.

Yeah, only a few trips would cover the cost of the pass! I might have to look into that myself. I thought about a Snowshoe pass, but that 6 hr drive would get old pretty fast.

If we can find a few more takers in the Triangle, carpooling to Wgreen on Sundays would be nice. Weekdays the bus is a nice option to have . . . or driving to Beech. :)

Yeah, Snowshoe is far enough that a flight to Utah feels like it's more worth the travel time.

I would be glad to add to the group and join in. I just found this site as a relatively new skier, but look foward to more next season.
