Another day of (f)unemployment, another day to go hiking. I decided to revisit a trail that I had hiked a few years ago, but originally was turned back on due to 70+ mph winds and rain. About 30 minutes west of Boulder is the Indian Peaks Wilderness, some of the more rugged peaks in the front range of Colorado. My day started at about 8:45 from the TH where the temp sat at 58 degrees- perfect. I hiked about 8 miles R/T and gained approximately 2500 vertical, reaching Arapaho Pass at 12,000 feet and then Dorothy Lake about 300 feet higher. Here are a few pictures from the hike.
The Fourth of July Mine is about 2 miles into the hike:
Decent amount of wildflowers are starting to pop out:
As usual, the dogs were my hiking partners.
Reaching Dorothy Lake, with Mt. Neva behind it:
The water was fairly cold.
Still some ice left... that didn't stop the dogs.
I love the glacial blue color:
Arapaho Ridge, to the northeast of the lake:
Looking north from Arapaho Pass towards Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park:
