In the first few days of April, the seasonal snowfall totals for the Park City and Ogden ski areas finally surpassed those of the WV/MD resorts. Winter for Utah decided to show up in the spring. I worked through the first part of the back to back storms, enjoying some of the best "working" ski days of the season at DV. The largest storm came on Monday night, and I had the next three days off. Skiing was going to be good everywhere and I decided to head north to Powder Mountain. CS, a friend of mine who I work with accompanied me, and I also ran into a few of the guys I work with at my part-time job.

When we got there most of the mountain was closed, except for the Sundown lift at the bottom. We debated about returning to Park City to ski for the afternoon, but most of the mountain opened at 11am, except the cat skiing off Lightning Ridge. Here is CS coming down a chute off the Paradise ridgeline:

Tuesday was windy and stormy most of the day so I didn't take a lot of photos. This is one near the Hidden Lake quad. This is the perfect place in the world to learn to ski powder and trees. Just enough pitch to keep going and not to steep to get you in trouble. Because it was a sheep ranch long before it was a ski area, Pow-Mow's tree's are excellent:

CS had skied at Pow-Mow before but never gone up on the cat, so we decided to return there on Wednesday. It was a glorious bluebird day. We went there straightaway, as the strong spring sun was going to cook the snow fast. Our tracks are the ones coming out of the trees:

A look at James Peak and it's adjoining ridgeline:

CS getting ready to figure 8 my tracks on a chute off Lightning Ridge:

One happy girl:

"Tracked Out" by Pow-Mow standards:

More goodness off the top. Next time over here I'm going to bag this little gem:

Scoping out a landing above the Lumberyard:

Although it was cool, the intense sun was heating up the snow rapidly. We had planned on hiking to the summit of James Peak. There was no bootpack in place, and I didn't bring my skins because CS doesn't have a full AT set-up yet. We were sinking up almost to our waist with each step so we aborted that mission and skied out into the Candyland area. Where's EC when you need him?

East aspects were getting brutal at lower elevations, as I nearly had a good crash because of the weight of the snow that collected on top of my basket threw me off balance at high speed. I ended up not even planting my poles. For the next series of runs we skied the north side of the ridge where the snow was still good:

CS really digs the Cat skiing area of Pow-Mow:

A self-portrait:

It's been a great finish to the season. I was going to go touring today, but after the trip yesterday I cracked open a 12 y/o single malt and slipped into the hot-tub under a clear starry night. After having skied either for work or for fun every day since Feb 10th, I finally crashed out and slept in till 2pm today. Three more days at DV, and my work season is done. I'm going to stay out here for a few weeks to do some touring and corn harvesting. Enjoy!!!

Awesome! I can't imagine skiing terrain like that or even having the ability to do it! It looks to be so much fun!

Ahh. You're a scotch connoisseur too, eh? I dab a little scotch & cigars myself. Very cool TR!

PowMow is the shizzle. Lift-accessed BC is always fun.

Thanks for the comments. Everyday I work at DV, I am sporting a little Pow-Mow sticker on my helmet. Single Malt Scotch= goodness.
