The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

yes pows great! i was just saying that if you're a kid weighing less than 50lbs, deep pows going to stop ya unless the terrain is steep. you can't teach an 8 yr old to go thru it if it's not possible on the greens.

pow skis arent needed to competently ski 6 inches of fresh on top of grooming....

but wakenakatransplant, snowplowing powder would kill all ur speed... especially on greens

Yes when my son was 5 out at Copper he was put in a lower class because he couldn't keep up through the powder. He was happy, I was not, a lot of money for lessons for a level he already had exceeded. Longer skis for younger kids always helps in deeper snow.

Been thanked: 5 times

I'm 5'8", 180 and use 150 skis as it is my second season. The black (Upper Omigosh) had about 8" of fresh powder that was in piles. You had to sit back on your skis so my ski tips would go through the piles. I had plenty of speed except at the bottom of the green near the lodge. The problem was there were so many snow piles. I'm not an expert by any means, but I went skiing about 20 times last year and a few times this year so far. From the conditions I have experienced in NC and WV, I prefer the groomed trails with a couple inches of fresh powder, 8 - 10 inches is difficult for me.

I'm heading to Beech tomorrow, I am sure the conditions will be great.
