Splendid pics KD. Yay for Roosevelt and Taft setting the precedent to save these natural wonders.

I went to Garden of the Gods in CO when I was 10, and since then I've always wanted to live close to the mountains. Finally we're able to move to Denver next summer. I was on a business trip to Spearfish, SD a few years ago and had enough time to checkout the local area and see some sights; it's just beautiful up there.

The monkey wrench gang would disagree. Look it up.
We found Lake Powell by accident back in the days before GPS or internet. We were driving from Utah back into Arizona and saw this small road sign that said "Lake" so we took the left and a few miles crested the hill and saw the lake below us. Disappointingly, the accessible shoreline was completely occupied by RVs and then the water was warm to boot. Still, it was great to find the oasis in the desert.
btw, you may remember the thread about the time lapse imagery of Mt.St.Helens. That same sight also had one for the water level in Lake Powell over a couple of decades.
KD - thanks for taking the time to frame and post the pics, always good to see postcards from the west.
