I'm hitting Canaan one last time this week. I'll be there Thursday through Saturday.

I wish I could have gone more often, but the drive from Charlotte is killer.

With the new highway being built up there, I can see Canaan and Timberline becoming more popular. last time I was up there I was talking to a guy on the lift ride up and he told me the new highway has reduced the travel time from DC to Canaan to about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Are you referring to Rt33 (Corridor H)? No way can you drive from DC to CV that quickly today. He probably said it "will" reduce travel time 2hr 15min when it's completed. WV is making a push to get federal funds to complete the WV portion of Corridor H by 2020. Keep in mind planning started back in the 60s. In Nov 2013 VA announce it has planned to complete their section (WV state line to I 81) by 2026.

route 33 is the southern approach. the new highway, 48, is the northern approach, all four lanes up and over the allegheny front, uncompleted now, but it already makes a big difference to DC drivers.

imo, the difference with SS is the good people of the Canaan Valley encourage or tolerate divergence and do a good job thinning and maintaining the glades, A different vibe on and off the slope. i love it. those are great photos from the knob.
