Thanks for posting.
We've looked at this trip too since they fly direct to Seattle.
My main concern is the costs, though. What were things costing?

You can certainly spend a ton of money in Iceland, but my wife and I are pretty conservative when it comes to accommodations and meals. My estimates:
Flights: $1700 ($850pp R/T from Denver)
Accommodations: ~$1200 (three nights in a B&B, 3 nights in Homeaway.com rental house, 5 nights in VRBO.com rental house)
Car Rental: $1250 (full-size SUV, upgraded day-of rental from a VW Polo for $300 extra which was totallly worth it)
Meals, food, excursions, etc: $800-1000'ish (we did a lot of hiking and exploring on our own, the only real guided tour we did was a glacier hike for $125pp)

For a week of driving a full size SUV, what did you spend on gas? Or did the $1250 include gas?
Did it look like you could car camp for free? I think if we did it we'd get a larger SUV that we could basically camp in, then get all our food from grocery stores.

Gas is uber-expensive, around $8/gal. That was a majority of our expenses once we were actually in Iceland. I bet we spent about $500-600 on gas and we drove just under 2,000 miles over the 12 days.
I'm not sure if there's free car camping, but it's certainly cheap and you can camp just about everywhere.
