The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

One of the most idoitic regulations was that no more than 3 people could congregate in a public or private parking lot.

Doug, have you ever seen half of a skull abraded away by asphalt? It's not pretty. Wear the helmet dude.

Ft. Lauderdale was tired of the spring break crowd some 20 years ago so the city commission imposed similar measures like MB to try and change the beaches image. At the time they were hated but 20 years later they are now considered heroes because the beach is so darn nice and attracts a whole new crowd. Helmet laws are a good thing by the way - bikers without helmets are organ donors waiting to be called.

Nc has Helmet laws. So I wear 1 daily.

Doing 100 mph without a helmet on I95 aint me, But cruising down Duval St, or on Main in Daytona, Heck even Ocean Blvd in MB without a helmet, and with the Ocean breze in your face is awesome. You get so much more on a bike. Smells, good and bad for one thing. Its a choice.

I ride defensively. I Still expect to smack something one day.

Im not gonna quit riding, just cause Im scared of what could happen.

its all in the amount of risk you are willing to take.

Its kind of like skiing chutes and tight lines. How close are you willing to get? Im willing to do about 5 ft openings confidently. Found some good ones at Alta Brighton and Soli.

Its a thrill. Dangerous as hell? Yes I have seen guys slay a line that will pass on chutes.

I have gotten to love the close quarters skiing avail in Utah. This past year I hit some lines Ill never forget.

Anyhow, Its a choice of the level of risk you are comfortable with.

The only problem I have with helmet laws are with seatbelt laws. If I have to wear a seatbelt isn't it a bit inconsistent to not require motorcycle riders to wear a helmet? Other than that, I'm all in with 2slix on helmet laws. Nothing like the wind in your hair, whether in your auto, bike (motor or not), skis, skateboard, whatever. Hell, if I want to drive around with no pants on I think I should be able to, as long as no one outside can see my wanker. I don't think the states should be able to tell me I have to do anything so as not to endanger only myself. Once that crosses over into endangering others then I think there is an issue. Me not wearing a seatbelt, biker not wearing a helmet; hurts no one other than person making that decision.

I don't really like biker events though because of the congestion, noise, etc., but if you have a probelm address the problem and don't pussyfoot around it with BS laws. If you don't want bikers just say "Your Biker Event Is Not Welcome Here, Go Somewhere Else". But I wouldn't be a very good politician.

Remind not to wave at Dave if I'm passing any Subi's in East Tennessee.

Dave,

You could have a clear car and not worry about people being able to see your wanker.:D

I agree with the fact that there is a law requiring one to wear a helmet is ridiculous, but it's all about the dollar. You'd be amazed at what a large percentage of my job is mandated either directly or indirectly by insurance companies, such as the helmet and seatbelt laws.

There is a line where that decision becomes important to the rest of us. If an accident occurs that requires long term care - and your insurance runs out - then the cost starts to come from my taxes.

There is a balance between the individual freedom and the cost to society for that individual freedom.

The same issues arise in the debate over smoking in bars.
