Brief (no pics) report from Winterplace, the b*st**d child of WV ski resorts:
I arrived at 3pm and the place was pretty empty. Skied onto the lift every run. They're opened to the top now with only Turkey Chute, Woods Run and a few little greens still closed. They should be 100% by Christmas. The quantity of snow was excellent. Nightmare was "open" with plenty of natural snow and the closed runs had tons of snow on them waiting to be spread out. The quality of snow could have been better. Not much ice but lots of ice chunks and large areas of ungroomed man-made that was pretty sticky (or maybe it just time to wax my board).
It wasn't great but it was definitely worth-it.

Remember when I said this was on the project list for this year:
Time to check that bad boy off.
About a foot of blower on top of consolidated base, at least one faceshot, drifts up to my waist that were a pain in the @$$ to skin over/around, epic conditions. Hit it just right, as storm was clearing and snow was still light and fluffy.
Unfortunately it was a solo expedition, so really crappy pics. Trying to show average depth of snow:
As I got to the main run, the skies opened up and Ullr beckoned:
I obliged:
There was more vert below that, but no pics. I am physically wasted right now- I skied it twice, and set a really steep skinner for the return. By the end it was getting to the point where I would skin 25 yards and have to stop. Parked at upper Canaan lot, at the end I cut over to the resort, skied down Diamond to base where I parked the car. Future trips will use the Canaan lift- no more skinning all the way from the valley.
Sickter day.

This weekend looks grim, and that run is all south facing. Ugh.

So since I dessup out on the long drive to VT, I salvaged the weekend with a short drive to WV. Really cold temps (5 degrees at start, warmed up to about 15 or so), but sunny and no wind, so just about perfect touring temps. Hit up the ipelinepa, about 6-8 inches of pure blower on top of death crust. Hit bottom a lot, tracks already there from yesterday, still had fun.
Skintrack stoke:
Looks pretty nice...
Hmmmmmm I'm not the first one here after this storm:
I've got a couple sets of tracks in here somewhere:
Toolset of the day:
One look back before heading back to Canaan parking lot:
Couldn't resist this shot of Canaan Ski Area:
