One other thing-- slides really do run a lot further than you would think. The ones today surprised me by how long they kept momentum and the distance they ran into the flat.

Wow, crazy stuff man. Good thing y'all were doing things right and being careful out there, the mountains are definitely a lot of fun but things change FAST. Good to hear you're O.K., it would have been sweet if you'd had the GoPro with you though. Great way to document things on the fly; Is this the first time since you've been out there that you've seen an avalanche? I've never seen one live just in ski porns and TGR threads.

I've seen a few other avalanches. Yesterday I was riding sugarloaf when patrol released the backside. It went pretty big. Probably 200' wide at the top and it ran down into glory hole. Sluffs are a daily occurrence out here, but the slabs we released today were the first I've seen up close and personally. The bigger slide was 60' wide and ran about 600' down the slope and fanned out to about 100' wide. It picked up speed QUICKLY there was nothing the guy could have done. I'm just glad the one I set off was only 15' wide. It entrained more snow and fanned out to about 40' wide by the time it stopped in the flats, but the crown was 15'.

Heres a report not from our incident but another party that triggered a slide in very close proximity to ours and about the same size.

UAC twitter feed was busy yesterday- seems like there were lots of soft slabs being released, and at least one big hard slab down to the Jan rain crust. Those are the ones that really, really scare me.

I was skiing the rock face under Sugarloaf (3/4 to the top where the groomer turns rt and you take the ridge out to rope gates) on a day of endless refills. Playing off little hits and winding the day down. saw a hit to my left and cut over to get to it. The entire slab below me cracked and slid. not but about 30 ft but maybee 16 inches deep. It traveled to the bottom of the steep angle, about 200 ft i guess. Trip how fast that happened. I was at the top so no problem and i took the hit into the runout and told the liftie. it was being closed by the time I got back up.
I have ****** helmet cam footage ill try to find

chest mounts are kinda weird, but they give an interesting perspective and don't look as crazy to wear. I like the helmet mount but a high chest mount might be cool. Still gonna get some knee-age on hucks. I really like this kind of perspective ...can't figure out how he has it rigged up though. A little more directly behind and above him would be sweet.

Looks like he probably has a pole with a 90 degree bend strapped to his backpack. I agree on the directly behind POV. If he had done that, he wouldn't have smashed those trees he was cruising through. That is still some crazy footage though.
