I decided it was worth taking a red-eye flight home in order to ski at Mt. Rose on the way to the airport. I'm glad we did that. I skied there back in the mid-80's on a business trip. With the addition of the Slide side and two express lifts, there is a lot more territory to ski now. Wasn't quite up for trying any of the Chutes, but got quite a good look from the lift.
I liked Alpine Meadows. Need more than a day to figure out Squaw. It's huge.

Discount tickets for Heavenly can be purchased at a Save Mart or Lucky store, which saves you $16 per ticket. If you like to shop, there are outlets at the "Y" intersection of 89 and 50. I like to stay at Harrahs or Harveys when I'm on the south shore. As for air, it's usually significantly cheaper to fly into Sacramento rather than Reno. I have flown from Charlotte for as little as $180 roundtrip. There are air deals out there, you just have to look for them.

I prefer to fly to Reno because it's less likely to be a problem driving over the mountains if there happens to be a snowstorm on the wrong day. One trip I used Reno and my friends had to drive back to northern CA. No issues for me. I think they were on the road for 4-5 hours (more than twice as long as with clear road). Worst case scenario, Donner Pass is closed.

Thanks. I paid more attention this time because I fully intend to ski around north Tahoe again. Always enjoy it.
