It was a good morning (mid-day) at Cat. I looked for SkiNC stickers but didn't see any. I need to get one from whoever has some. We arrived some time after 10 and got our season pass photos done. Hit the slopes about 10:45.

Rock Island was in pretty decent condition:

By the time we left near 1 a discolored area was forming just above the merge with Alley Cat and Lower O. Skiers right was ungroomed and very crusty 'til it had some traffic.

Upper O isn't going to open any time soon:

The trails weren't too crowded except sporadically but teh line for the quad was like this

e

pretty much the whole time we were there.

We called it a day around 1 'cause we were tired of only making one run every 20 minutes or so (counting the line for the chair, the ride up and maybe a minute or a minute and a half to get back down).

It was still fun and great to finally get back on the snow.

conditions appear to be pretty good from the pics. When the line backed up at rock island did they load 4 people to a chair or was it the typical 2 people on a quad while the line got out of control?

I've always been amazed at how cat can have nearly no one on the slopes but back ups in the lift lines

I just got back from cat, after lunch they put somebody down there who knew what they were doing to make sure 4 people were going on each lift, Cataloochee made a good first impression to me but the lack of staff needs to change asap

Nice trip report. Good pics.

I know tomorrow will be a zoo because of "Can-U-ski".

However...Cat will also be opening the double lift to ease some of the crowding.

From their report for Sunday....

"...with three aerial lifts and one conveyor lift operating, Intermediate Rock Island Run and Advanced Alley Cat serviced by the Rock Island Run Quad Chairlift, Intermediate Lower Omigosh, serviced by the Omigosh Double Chairlift and Beginners Over Easy, Beginners Upper Over Easy, Beginners Easy Way and Beginners Rabbit Hill serviced by the Easy Way Triple Chairlift"

Looking forward to seeing everyone there :). Safe travels...

I didn't see too any chairs with less than 3 and most had 4. They were pretty good about putting people from the single line in to make at least. 3.

DJ, were you with the little girl in your pic? Lines were long but tolerable, overall it was a great day at CAT today. Fun turns with many SKINCer's. Scuba, SKISC, 2Slix and Mr. Stinky.

Nope. I have a son and he is 17. The girl just happened to be in the pic when I took a shot down Rock Island.
