Day 1 of our 4 day Colorado trip started with a 5am trip to RDU. Curbside bag check-in was a breeze with Southwest (note: ski bags were over the posted 62" size limit - no questions asked - no fees or extra charges). Since I couldn't find any volunteers to drop us off and time was running slim, we opted for the parking deck (which turned out to be good - stay tuned for Day 4 return). The 6:30 - 8:30am direct flight was awesome - other than the squirmy 7 year old that just had to sit beside me. He wasn't too bad though, at least he wasn't sitting behind me! Claiming our bags in Denver took a little longer than desired, but once we had bags in hand it was off to the pickup area where my buddy was waiting for us.

First view of the mountains from Denver:

It started snowing good when we were passing Loveland:

Almost there:

Snowing good by the time we hit the Breck parking lot ~11am. The playerz:

The wife & I on one of the sweet groomers. Unfortunately my buddy's wife had a season ending knee injury 2 weeks before we arrived, so he & I made a few more green runs than intended, but running the groomers with the wife isn't all that bad while it's puking:

It started to clear up ~ 2pm, I guess we got 2-4" while at Breck:

The park looked pretty sweet - check out the half-pipe:

Our Breck day ticket was also good for the same day/night at Keystone so we headed over there for a few evening runs.

Keystone from the road:

The parking lot:

Scenic:

Looking down River Run:

We only made a few runs at Keystone as the lighting wasn't all that great and we were having difficulty seeing our footing - I didn't really want to tweak a knee on the first day!

Breckenridge was AWESOME and I would highly recommend it for a day or two. Since we didn't really ski much of Keystone I can't say much about it, but I'd like to go back on a powder day.

After the runs at Keystone, we headed back to my buddy's place in Lakewood and hit up Quizno's & the store on the way. Dinner & a few of the Rocky Mountains finest and it was time to rest up for Day 2.

Looks fun. I haven't spent much time exploring Breck, but it was fun. Keystone...we found trees in one of the back bowls and had a blast.

I like the start of your trip. Make me want to add to the already too much on my credit card and head out there.

Looks like your conditions were way better than ours a couple of weeks ago. Awesome trip start. Breck was fun. Next time head up to the Imperial Lift and take 4 O'clock all the way down to the parking lot...talk about a long run to end the day.

We stayed at Keystone, and night skiing there is sketchy to say the least...they need to learn a thing or two from us on the east coast on lighting.

Is keystone the only resort to offer night skiing in that region?

It's the only "big" place. There is a really small place called Echo Mtn. that is just outside Evergreen, CO. It's open till 9pm.
