I've been really busy the past few days and haven't had a chance to get this up. A friend of mine had never been to Pow-Mow wanted to go up there, and with 15" of fresh, why not? Another neat thing about this trip was that it was one of the few times I've been there where it was a bluebird day, and everything was open.

Looking off the Hidden Lake Express:

Powder Country:

James Peak and adjacent ridgeline as viewed from Lightning Ridge:

My friend Robbie getting his:

And me having my own moment:

From our second cat lap, Snowbasin is on the right, and earlier the PC resorts could be seen on the left side of the pic:

Yum!!!:

Looking back up:

A view of the line from Paradise Ridge:

Looking at the end of Lightning Ridge, Big Kash, and James Peak. In the foreground is a small cliff band off the N side of Paradise I had never really noticed before. Thats what I like about this place, is discovering all these nooks and crannies:

Caught this guy going huge:

I'm off to Brian Head this evening for the next three days. I have to go down there for a PSIA event, and I'll post a TR when I return. A few more weeks for my winter season, and then it's back to the river in West Virginia.

I heart Powder Mountain (Snow Basin is not bad either). That is the best looking conditions I have seen in Utah this late in the season in a long time.

After two seperate two-week plus storm droughts this winter (the 2nd one with 40-60 degree temps) late March/early April has been good to Utah. Pow-Mow is supposed to open up even more terrain next year from what I've gathered from reliable sources.

Riverscum from what little I can uncover seems Snowbasisn/pow mow run 5-10 degrees warmer than the cottonwoods, which would seem to make a lot of the last few days rain north of SLC. then again I really don't know my *** from a whole in teh grownd about utah.

With another storm system movin in out there late next week, you figger north of salt lake is worth foolin with ? is that just way way too much chrystal ball crap? any thots appreciated and dem sum killer pics!!!!!

Ga Tom, you are right, the temps can vary slightly, especially since SB & Pow-Mow are lower elevation than their southern counterparts. But the biggest difference is that the general storm track favors the Cottonwood Canyons, esp Little. Just today Alta reports 12", Brighton one ridge and a bit over 3", and DV another ridge and a bit over-0". But sometimes a northern track storm will hammer the northern resorts much more than the south. If they get snow up there, it is totally worth it, especially at the end of the year. You'll get more fresh tracks at either of those two than you would in the Cottonwoods unless you get lucky and the road closes behind you.

I love the Skiing the Ogden area, and I have family that lives there so I can stay for free. The last time I was there was about three years ago and they were in the middle of a terrible drought. Temps were pushing near 60 and there bare spots on the mountain with terrain closed in Feburary!! I have skiied in Utah a number of times and have pretty much been skunked everytime with the weather. Last year I finaly changed it up and went to CO and had a great trip. I will make a return to the Tah one of these seasons. Glad to see they could slavage some late season dumpage at the end here.
