On Saturday and Sunday Bultaco and I rode in the Tour to Tanglewood, a fundraiser for MS. We started at 8:00 a.m. at the Volvo truck dealership in Greensboro and rode the backroads to Tanglewood in Clemmons, 47.5 miles on Saturday and 42.5 on Sunday. It was wet but still around 1400 people showed up to ride.
I took some of the photos but most are courtesy of the MS Ride photographer.
Our team.
My friend Lori and I did this ride 23 years ago. We hadn't seen each other in years and had a chance encounter a few months ago so it was great to ride with her again (even though I was quickly off the back, just like the old days).
The start.
Bultaco setting the pace. They were moving along pretty well. Averaged 19.1 mph on Saturday and 18.3 on Sunday.
As well as traditional bikes, there were some recumbants
And some tandums. My friend Mark had a tandum with a tag along for his two sons.
And some crazy rollerbladers!
Along the way there were 5 rest stops with tons of support.
I was glad to get to the finish line.
After the ride is a big party. There is a catered lunch, beer, massages, beer, bands (3 different ones), Beer, dinner, beer, breakfast and another lunch on Sunday. Sadly since it was raining a lot of people left early and missed the fun. We, however, proceded for the next 6 hours to have a fabulous time even though it was raining.
The next morning we were ready to do anothere 42. miles!
