Hey yall. Not much of a poster here, especially not recently, but I am a pretty common lurker. Love reading all the TR's. Anyway, I'm an idiot and forgot to bring my ski gear back up to school after Thanksgiving Break, so I wasn't able to take advantage of the fresh snow by hitting slopes. But I wanted to enjoy the new snow anyway so a buddy and I hiked up to McAfee's Knob on the Appalachian Trail. This was my first time hiking up there, and it was definitely worth, and the newly fallen snow made it even better.
Anyway here's the pics.
Start
We took the fire road for the first 2.5 miles to make things a bit easier.
The AT looking real nice with the fresh coverage.
Nice view nearing the top.

Myself, sitting right up at the edge. An absolutely breath taking vantage.

Thats all. I definitely recommend that hike to anyone, esp if it snows.

Looking at these photos makes me want to shiver, especially when I see a jean and snow combination! I cant stand it when jeans get wet.

Nice!! I've done that hike quite a bit, but never with snow on the ground. Great pics, makes me miss living in Roanoke.
If you're ever looking for a longer hike that no one ever does, leave a car at the McAfee's parking lot, park at Dragon's Tooth, and hike the AT connection between the two. Really nice open fields that leads to a good ridge hike.

Thanks for the comments. EastCoaster, I'll certainly have to try that hike. Maybe with the forecast calling for some more snow this Friday-Saturday, my buddy and I will be able to give it a try. Could be a nice break right before finals.
As for the jeans, yeah they weren't ideal to be wearing in the snow, but the snow was dry enough and the air cold enough that I was able to brush most of it off before it started melting on me.

Another good hike near VT after a snow is along the ridge of Potts Mountain past Wind Rocks. It a wilderness area so it gets pretty remote out there.
