It was cold at SugarFest on Sat! Marz Jr. wasn't ready for 27 degrees for her first day of the season. Even after being out in the cold the afternoon before for some ice skating. Never got above 32 degrees.

The cold made for some great conditions in the morning. Lots of snow blowing top to bottom but it was so dry that it didn't really get in the way. No black runs open but they were working on them. Big Red was grass. By afternoon people had scraped things down to some hard stuff in a quite a few places, but it wasn't exactly icy.

The guys in the demo tents seemed happy with the number of people trying stuff out. It never got too crowded so running straight down from top to bottom while experimenting with something new was easy enough.

They were scanning every lift ticket.

No line to worry about at 10:30am

More boarders than skiers, especially on top

Snow blowing at the bottom

My wild ride down was on 4FRNT Madonna, a powder ski 90 underfoot. Actually the only ski that was the right length for me, 146. The recommendation was to let the skis do what they like to do . . . so I did. Went top to bottom in a lot less time than I usually do since short turns were not happening. Did a couple more runs where I turned more, but was still moving pretty fast. I can see that it could be fun in deep powder.

The others were K2 Burning Luv, Dynastar Exclusive Legend, and the Rossi Attraxion IV. All 155 or longer so a little harder for me to turn just because of the extra length. I should be on 146-153. I was surprised at how much I like the Attraxion. Since I just bought my first pair of good skis last spring, K2 One Luv 146, I'm really interested in learning how different skis feel. If the lifts were faster, would've been much easier to test more styles.
