Trying to decide which NC resort to go to for New Years Eve. Want something that's good all-around (looking at size of mountain, population during New Years, level of difficulty?) I lived in Steamboat, CO and skiing level is advanced. What is the most advanced mountain in NC? And is it worth driving to Snowshoe instead? (9 hour drive vs a 5 hour drive)

You'll like Snowshoe alot more than NC ski areas (not of them are resorts like snowshoe). Nothing is as advanced as Steamboat so don't get your hopes up.

Welcome nubben. I grew up skiing da Boat. As Stealth noted, Snowshoe has the most to offer. If you are day trip'n or just a weekend I would go with Sugar/Beech or even Cat. Crowds aren't too bad on New Years Eve and it usually thins in the afternoon as people leave to go to party etc...

I agree...Snowshoe by far offers the best overall terrain. Sugar/Beech/Cat....and even Wolf (when conditions are good) offer pretty good overall terrain.
I am from Charleston originally...what part
Also this should be in a different forum...

Thanks for the input. Yeah, I'm new to this blog stuff, so I didn't know which forum to use. Oh well, Thanks everyone! Looks like we may take the short route and just go to Sugar. Wish Snowshoe was still an option for us. Let us know if anyone will be there to party down for New Years!!
