yeah, yeah, its a little late but hey, here it is.

so last year, i pushed off going skiing until it was too late and/or i got too busy so I decided to seize the day, as it were, and "swing by" maggie valley on my way back to atlanta from nashville.

its a really pretty drive if anyone is interested. growing up in south georgia my whole life, im used to farms being...ehh, fugly and boring. eastern Tennessee along i40 between nashville and knoxville (which sucks) is actually very picturesque...of course, im a ****** for any kind of mountain or hill. all in all, between that stretch of rolling farmlands and the beauty past gatlinburg, i didn't need my ipod or radio on the whole time. it was a fun solo trip and i'll probably be back sometime next week as work allows.

anywho, here are the pictars.

leaving nashville at 6 am

so, i saw the billboards, and i thought, you know, only in pigeon forge would they build the titanic...but i didn't believe it....but yeah, they ARE building the titanic...get me out of this tourist trap!!!

oh my god, fml...

ahh, finally

tourists..."hey tharsss some snow...lets sled onit! but lets hurry, we don't want to miss the authentic indian show in downtown pigeon forge!"

looking VERY nice

this is why floridiots should not be allowed into the mountains unless being shuttled in...took me like 30 minutes to go 12 miles....

maggie valley still looking good...now to get some skis and head to the mountain

meadows still looking okay

we are required to post a lift shot or something?

not a bad view at all

it was pretty windy that day. i heard second-hand that ski patrol says the gussts were up to 60 mph at the top...not sure if it was THAT bad but it was pretty bad...still much fun to be had anytime im on the snow ;)

goodbye old friend...

so all in all, as is to be expected with cataloochee, the conditions were great...the one black trail that goes under the midway lift was iced over but being exposed to the wind im sure it wasn't their fault. There were only a few other icy spots that were easily avoidable but all in all, i thought the conditions were great.

hopefully see you guys there next week. thanks for looking! :)

The Cat is a prime example of a need for glades in the SE. I'm not saying I have never been in those trees, cause I have, but what is the real stand Cat takes on such things. The ski patrol has never said anything to me about it.

they told me they were cleared for a reason...but that thy werent real big on people who go through em without a helmet. They really dont want anyone getting hurt out there but they want to provide a fun experience for everyone. Part of me thinks that the meadows not being able to open anymore is a factor in them allowing skiers in some of the wooded areas. Its just something extra....

there were lots of ppl cutting through the trees...im not confident enough to do so but i cut in close to the trees and the snow was reallllly snow...i probably had the wrong kind of skis but other ppl were doing it :)

It's too bad they don't have glades runs in NC. Is it actually a law/regulation or is it just due to the insurance companies restricting it?

Ummmmm. It has more to do with our amount of natural snowfall.
