Went up tonight and it was pretty icy, the wind was howling and the temps were low. We were well prepared for the cold though so we had a great time, that is until I lost a screw in my bindings!

Its a little late but since this thread is gettin bashed for no pics I'll add a couple we got while at Beech on the 5th. Didn't get many because it was so freakin cold. All my gear is good except my gloves and this day definitely let me know about it, so not many pics.
We left Virginia at 10 for the twilight session expecting to hit snowy roads. The roads were in pretty good shape as long as you had 4wd.
After several delays, turning around for my wallet, and trying to get the tail lights to turn off on the explorer, we got on the slopes at 2. As for the day session there were alot more people out in the cold than I expected. The temperature on the wall inside freds was 5 when we arrived with the wind chill at -15, so i expected we would have it to ourselves. That still didn't stop people. I even seen one woman wearing a florida hoodie for an outer layer. I'd say not a very fun day for her.
As for the snow, The day session was not exactly what I expected. I figured with several striaght days of snow it would be nice and soft, but if was exactly the opposite unless you knew where to ski. For the people who ride to the top of the mountain and snowplow straight down the middle of Upper Shawnee this was a bad day. Lots of ice to be found in the middle of runs!!! and thats goes for about the whole mountain.
We found the best run on the mountain to be Southern Stars. plenty of powder was left on the run and no ice except the entrance from Robins Run. They closed it for the night session for no apparent reason, so we rode it anyways. It snowed pretty hard during lunch/supper so Southern Star was even better than the morning session and we had it all to ourselves. They have some crazy mounds of snow on it that need to be pushed around at the top.
Beech has made a crazy amount of snow, the whales on White Lightning are massive. the one big pole gun on the big role has made a whale about the size of a 2 story house. the pictures really don't to it justice. It's the same height as the gun.
We got in several runs during the night then decided to head to the house before the roads got to bad. Now for a couple pictures.

i was there that day, i was a little miffed that they had half the mountain closed but nothing about it online. it also sucks when a 30mph wind gust catches you in front of their snowmaking guns pointed directly at the few open runs. I had to stop a lot to clear a sheet of ice off my goggles. that mound of snow they were making was ridiculous though.
