Pretty decent conditions considering the warm weather lately and rain the day before. It sprinkled in the morning hours for a little while too, so it was quite slushy as the temperature rose in the afternoon. But it was a fun day with small crowds and no lift lines.
The terrain park had about 5 different rails set up and a couple of jumps. The jump at the end looked like it could have been good before the warm weather, but it needs to be reworked to get anything out of it now. There were a couple of attendants assigned to the park all day. Being a skier and not much of a terrain park guy, I will hit boxes or tables, but not so much on the rails. So I didn't spend much time over there other than to check to see what they had available.
Going solo for the day, I experienced something I haven't ever experienced before. I got there as they opened and felt like I had the place to myself for the first two hours. It's a great novelty at first, but skiing down empty groomed trails and riding the lift back up alone gets kinda boring after a while. Once the albeit small crowds started showing up, my focus turned to paying attention to other people on the slopes, occasionally having someone to ride up the lift and chat with, watching to see if that guy is going to save it or bite it, etc and it's part of the fun. All those days on overcrowded slopes when I wished I had the the place to myself, I never considered that those other people were part of what I enjoyed. Up to a certain point anyway.
Here's a few photos I took. There's plenty of snow on the slopes, but not enough anymore to ski in the new glades areas and between the trails.
I always like it when the clouds hang low in the valleys. But the cloudy weather made for flat light and so not much else to report photowise.

Glad to see that their base is holding. I'll be up there next Friday. It looks like they'll be able to make snow every night next week and there are a couple chances for a dusting of snow. Can't wait!

travism, nice little TR. Wished there were more pics, but I think that pic showing the left side of Alley Cat illustrates the effect that warmer weather and rain have had lately. Granted, that cold spell we had really spoiled us and got me used to seeing side-to-side coverage.
Very relevant observation about going up there solo and the realization of how boring empty slopes can be. I have had that experience myself and it falls under the category of "be careful what you wish for". I will always dislike overcrowded conditions but if there are the "right" number of people there on a good weather day, it just adds to the experience.
Wish I had known you were planning to visit Cat. Please post a message or PM me if you want to share a ride up there. I still have Fridays off this semester and hope to get up there this upcoming Friday (1-29). That also happens to be my Bday and I always enjoy celebrating it with a day on the slopes (my wife said we can go to dinner the following night).

I felt bad about having to bail last time I tried to set up a Friday carpool. And this trip was a last minute decision based on if the rain would provide a window of opportunity for a decent day or not.
I'll keep next Friday in mind and send you a message if I can head up there again. If I have some good subjects I'll take the DSLR up there and get more of those photos that make for a better TR.
