Weather forecasters have been doing there homework this season or just getting lucky
I was anticipating a storm similar to the Dec 21st so I was stoked to head up to a resort that is know for not grooming everything.... The new snow was there, about 8" worth, but with an extra surprise of 1" or so of ICE on top. Sooo everything that appears soft and buttery is actually a death cookie about to be born. Sigh...back to skiing NC groomers. All in all a great day. Long drive up=3hrs, about twice the normal time. NC DOT was on the ball today (although I heard the Friday night travelers weren't so lucky), SC DOT not so much. On to the pics...
Check the single chair at my house before I left= .25inches+ice
NC DOT doing their thing
Abandoned cars on I-26 from Friday night
The beauty of NC storms, zero early crowds
Tribute to EC Lift shot
I don't go to WR often... name the trails....
OZ tunnel....
The infamous Bowl Closed....
After lunch crowds arriving
Some of the peeps I met and skied with today
The Bowl Opens!
Tomorrow should be a bluebird day and roads were great coming home. Go get sum!

Nice pics. Hopefully tomorrow will be good. Maybe it won't be as crowded as today. We'll be making first tracks so I know we'll get a few runs in with no crowds.

That pic is labeled incorrectly, that is actually the tunnel at the bottom of Over Under on the Wolf Breakaway side.
Last I saw, Oz had a wooden bridge across to the main slope. I used to ride my mountain bike up to it all of the time when we stayed at our house over there. Seeing the bridge was good because it meant you were finally at the top of the hill!!!

Guess we are going to have to continue the search for the tunnel.

Big Foot and Nessie are in there. Sharpening their edges, I hear.... Dorothy showed them where it was.

Must have been 1986 last time you were there b/c Beech began construction later that year on the Oz Tunnel. About the same time the Linn Cove Viaduct was being completed on the Blue Ridge Pkwy. As mentioned in previous post, there was an 18 month work stoppage, and was completed a few years later.

Somebody is going to have to produce a picture of this Oz Tunnel. I (still) own a house up there, been to the top of Oz on a bike in the summer about as many times as on the Oz slope in winter and I have never seen a tunnel.
I'm not saying it's BS (everybody can be wrong, right?) but I find it hard to think as much time as I've spent up there I've never seen it. Are we talking about the top of the Oz Run? Do people ski or ride through it?
Fill me in, it would be an interesting tidbit to learn about Beech that I didn't know.
