Took advantage of Wake County's 3rd snow day to take Marz Jr. to Mnut. Also her new ski buddy from Charlottesville. Clear roads all the way. The snow stopped before midnight Tue night. Temp was 30 or above all day.



Mnut got 5 inches, less in Charlottesville. Even though the air temp went up to mid-30's, the deep snowpack and cloud cover kept the snow in good condition all day. Was 32 when we left at 4pm. According to the Mnut website, they haven't made snow for several nights. Really didn't need to. Expecting lots more snow this weekend.



Conditions were awesome! Probably well groomed in the morning based on what I saw on the edges. We didn't get on the slopes until 11:30. Some icy patches on ParaDice by lunch time. The left side of PD was bumped up. DJ was great! For the last run of the day, Marz Jr. did her first complete run (no stops) at a pretty decent pace, continuing all the way to the lodge.



Well worth the drive. Gotta make good use of our season passes. Going back for the weekend.

From my house in northwest Wake Co, just south of Southpoint Mall, it takes 4.0-4.5 hours pretty much any route you choose. Assuming no snow on the roads.



My usual route is NC86 to Danville, US29 to VA6, VA151, US250. If after dark, I take I-64, I-81 to Harrisonburg, and US33 to Mnut. Daytime, I'll take US340. But you need to know the little road that's a shortcut to McGaheysville. With snowy weather, I've other routes. For instance, all the way up US29 to Charlottesville to get to US33 or via Richmond. 240 miles the short way, about 280 miles via Richmond.



For black run skiing for adults, WTG makes more sense from the Triangle. But with kids, the layout of Mnut is much better. I'm spoiled by the convenient parking next to the lodge, lack of crowds, as well as perks I get as a timeshare owner. If I want long runs, I fly out West.

prob mid week to avoid crowds but it just depends on work, i have been to wintergreen but i want to go someplace that has bumps, i'm not trying to start another bump thread, but if anybody has any updates...

What was really good was that even though she had a ski buddy around, my daughter made a point of wanting to do a few runs on DJ with me before we left. Her buddy is used to skiing alone on Geronimo, so it worked out great.



Now to figure out how to handle the snow this weekend.

Wintergreen had a few bumps on Sunday, but Mnut's bumps were better during our last visit after Christmas.

Yeah, even on Dobie I got some small air on the bumps. Newb + air = BAD
