Lots of story for relatively few pictures.
Crawled out of bed at 4 am for what I hoped would be an epic day. Grumble grumble grumble started down the road- VA did a great job clearing the major highways, but the MD side was still snowpacked, even on the interstate. Was trying to decide between Wisp and Whitetail and decided to go with the closer resort after a major accident closed all lanes on I-70W and required a detour.
I should note that Whitetail advertised today as "The best conditions in 10 years" and that everybody coming from DC should take the alternate route that comes from the north, out of Mercersburg. Well, long story short the state had not touched the road, I managed to high-center the Xterra, dug myself out a bit, and eventually got an assist from some friendly guys with a bigger truck.
On the way out we passed the state plow guy in an end loader heading for the road- he said there were reports of 7-10 ft drifts in the road, and that it might take a couple hours to dig out. At that point (8 am-ish), Whitetail was reporting a delayed opening, at noon. Oooooooook, we drove down to Hagerstown to waste time until 10 am, at which point they reported that there would be no opening today.
:mad::mad::mad::mad:
Loathe to waste the day completely, we dropped by Shepherdstown, WV to have lunch with my sister. Naturally, in EC fashion, I couldn't resist poaching some tasty looking spots with more natural base than we will probably ever see.
I hope this guy in Harper's Ferry doesn't mind me booting up his backyard...
First turn was pretty nice...
The next "run" ended pretty well:
Finally, a pretty unique perspective: shredding towards the Potomac River:
So...resort pow fail, backyard pow win. Such is life.
