Ski Southeast Messageboard

Seems to be a recurring theme... every weekend, the Front Range resorts are "blessed" with sunny skies and warm temps. Knowing that- and knowing the crowds that are sure to follow- Jay, Bill and I decided to poke around Berthoud for some leftover goodies. We found them.



Bill likes to contrast his jacket with the skiing environment:





Jay got a new jacket so he can be steezy like Bill:







But not as steezy as this random snowboarder who was hitting the world's worst quarter pipe next to the parking lot:







Back to the skiing- the snow was good.







The takeoffs and landings were soft:







Next time, Jay promised he'd hit it from the top and skip the pillows:

Every time they get lift service up Berthoud, we end up in a 3-5 year drought. I do not think that Avie's kept it from running. Winter Park and Steamboat Springs rely on that Pass for Denver/COS skier's.



It has been mainly economical reasons as well as snow or lack there of.

Its economical- it certainly isn't for lack of snow. Berthoud gets an average of 400+ inches a year.



I think the lack of visitors was attributed to the weird lift/shuttle system they had setup, and the lack of any kind of real amenities. It'd be interesting to see how it would do now that smaller ski resorts are back "en vogue".

from 2000-2005 colorado was hurting for snow. some resorts closed 1-2 weeks earlier than planned during those years. Like the east coast from 2005-2009? Berthoud ran the $10 day promo on midweek based on snow amounts. the more it snowed, the less money you paid for a ticket..... I think berthoud pass could run again, but would have to operate like Silverton does now. guided B/C.

With the BC presence already up on Berthoud Pass (along with organizations like the Friends of Berthoud Pass), I don't think anyone's going to try to run lifts up there again.



Although if they did, it would be sick- the terrain up there is awesome.
