2nd attempt

First attempt, I was almost done when the computer locked up. argh.

Awesome week of skiing. Whoot, 5" of pow the first day (Sunday) the next four days sunny, warm (30-40 degrees) and no wind, got 3" of snow the last day on friday. I should make a separate TR for the drive on I70 back to DIA.

on to the crappy iPhone pics

View of Baldy from the condo

Have you licked the Devil's Crotch?

Double Black goodness on Peak 9 (note to self--move thumb next time out of shot)

Rarely skied Mineshaft. More Double Black goodness a short traverse from the DC.

(skied this again on 2:30 friday for 2nd or 3rd tracks with 3" fluff on top)

Mineshaft again with Peak 8 and Imperial Bowl/Express in the backgound.

Tyler really got the hang of skiing these year. Worried the heck out of me when he started skiing through the trees of all places. Like father like son I guess.

Breck's first ski experience---where else? In Breck.

I70 drive home TR on Saturday March 20.

Needless to say the foothills got slammed with up to 2ft of snow. Roads were horrible around Genesse (Buffalo Park area). A little red volvo sped by us in the far left lane (we were in the middle) and started spinning out a little after it passed us. It went across two lanes and hit a van in the right lane and proceeded to make 360's and it came back across and hit the median guardrail coming to a stop in front of us. With snowpacked roads I couldn't exactly slam on the brakes, but the antilock and 4WD did help us stop about 10ft from them. Now I am thinking we are going to get rear-ended. We kept going but there were numerous other wrecks we passed, some with emergency people on scene. Very glad to make it so the airport and on our flight.

Slow down people in ice and snow and drive safe.

hey, glad you got out there again. DC and Mineshaft are looking good - but was that chairlift (E?) running or did you have to extreme flat traverse back to peak 9? That view of peak 8 also shows chair 6 - one of my favorites anywhere.

That's interesting about the wrecks. We've been stopped on the highway in bad weather several times, but I haven't seen wholesale wrecks like that. Always the worst sort of fun when you are trying to get back to the airport.

Nothing like a day driving the I-70 bumper car race....!:D

I got caught up in a nasty pile-up back in Dec 2007. Damn Texan in his SUV was thinking he was wearing a suit of armour or something.... He passed me doing 65mph on snow..... 2 miles down the hill he spun out and flipped his SUV like 5 times. His moronic ways costs me a front bumper and some frame alignment. nobody hurt, but I am still awaiting my day in court - 6 people are suing his AZZ. His insurance paid out for repair's, but I want to thrash this guy for being stupid in the snow.......... FYI - anti-lock breaks were not made to drive on ice.... they make the stopping worse when they lock&bounce. drive in low gear and SLOW DOWN!

+1 on that. The old school pumping your brakes is the only way. Too many Californian's and Texans in Colorado driving like idiots.

+1 for chair 6. Fun stuff over there. Did you ski Whale's Tail at all? It was skiing really nice when I left, and we were there some of the same days. Nice TR.

E chair was running back up to Peak 9. I actually skiied liftline this time (slope directly under E chair--much steeper than the DC) Skied under chair 6 early one morning---mistake. The sun had baked the snow and with a freeze overnight and before the sun could rethaw the snow. The ungroomed was very unbomber.

Only got to ski the Whale's Tail one time this trip--love the cornice entrance.

By the way. Breck is flat and there are no steep trails at Breck---only greens and blues and flat traverses.
