This was an incredibly moving event with 11,000 + participants and raising close to $1 million. The best part of that is that 75% stays within our own community to pay for mammograms and education. Only Survivors are asked to wear pink so they can be easily recognised.
Susan's Memory Garden
While the race, the activities and the band are all great fun, the most moving part of the day is the survivior parade with each survivor receiving a pink carnation and marching through the crowd behind the banners with the number of years since they were diagnosised.
On of the most touching scenes, a mom with her infant marching.
While there are many tears in the parade, this woman was jubilant! Half the crowd is bawling by now though!
Carnations raised in victory!
At the end butterflies were released above the crowd.
However many landed on the upraised carnations. The most touching was the butterfly that landed on the sign carried in memory of a young woman who had died only months before. We were standing next to her family and friends who crying since there hearts were broken. When the butterfly landed, it gave them more of a sense of peace.
A very good PINK day for the Pink family.
