very good, but too fast!! We've been going here for 14 years. Every year we cram in fewer activities. Now it's swimming in the mornings, lunch and naps at the beach house, swimming in the evenings, fresh seafood from Bills, hush puppies and key lime pie from Crabbys, the Sugar Shack, even a little golf. Only problem is not a good place for sailing. This will be the last summer for the old bridge and we hate to see it go. I didn't spend much time taking photos, but here are a few more....

I used to go to Sunset and I recognized the dunes and the pier. Great pics! Looks like you had a great time! Sad to see the old bridge go. It adds so much character to the island. I hope you got some photos of the bridge before it's gone. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I too would love to see the bridge. I've never been to Sunset.

I have not taken pictures of the bridge in several years, might even be in the analog era. Should have taken one last pic this year, oh well. Try this... http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/bridges/sunset.html

I've been through that old swing bridge many times on the intracoastal going from Ocean Isle Beach to Little River inlet.

Are they building a huge A$$ bridge like the one at Ocean Isle? Sunset seems too small for anything larger. That's always been the charm of Sunset Beach, small and remote.

pretty much just like the bridges at OIB and Holden. 2 lanes, 60' high. money talks, charm walks. it was the last such bridge on the east coast. will be interesting to see what happens to the island now. for one thing, there is already not enough parking and only two lots left for parking lot development, so no one knows where all those cars are going to go. we noticed a big increase in parking on the side streets by day visitors.

next year, the new sewer line will open, which opens the doors to more dense development.

That will ruin the quaint feeling on the island. Sometimes progress is not good.
