Well after reading the MS150 posting I doubt my ride is as important
Well I decided to on up my first century from 2009 with a two day 220 mile ride from York, SC to Isle of Palms (Charleston), SC. It has been about 2 years since I have been home and figured it was about time...so this is my birthday ride home.
Day 1:
Started a tad late...dogs did not want to cooperate, and loading the TDI took longer than expeted, but leaveing 10 - 15 mins late wasnt that big of a deal. The weather forecast looked good, no rain planned, but still unseasonable high with 95F and full sun being what I had to look forward too.
The first 50 miles were going well...just some rolling hills (some long climbs), then from 50 - 60 miles the road turned upward climbing to the top of Liberty Hill...a nasty little climb of varying grades, but not too bad.
After some lunch the next 15 miles were "supposed" to be downhill, but apparently Map My Ride's topography is all F-ed up...because they were long grueling rolling hills which started to take its toll on my legs...but I kept my spirits up.
I have a Bassett Hound named Tucker
Day 1 ended with me stopping 40 miles short of my goal (140.5 miles), but 100.5 miles was/is the longest ride I have ever done, so I figured I would save my legs for Day 2.
Day 2:
Started with a trip to Waffle House for an All-Star Breakfast...man I was full, but after burning near 6000 calories the day before I needed the refuel. Today was flatter than yesterday and the random rolling hill did little to break my cadence and motivation. We reached Goose Creek, SC in good time and stopped for some lunch when a rain shower set in for a bit. 30 mins in the rain was a nice change and refreshing.
But once that cleared the headwinds picked up and it was slow going for the last 25miles.
But I finally made it to my destination...no crashes, no flats, not one incident...which I am very thankful for.
177.9 total miles (Day 1: 100.5 Day 2: 77.4), over 10,000 calories burned, 2600ft of climbing (3000ft of decensding), 7 Sierra Nevadas upon arrival, 1 shot of Firefly, and one happy wife to be done driving 15mph behind my lycra covered butt.
