Went hiking in the Seneca Rocks/Dolly Sods area again this weekend. Did an epic 9 hour hike in the Flatrock Plains area, just exploring marked (but mostly unmarked) trails to see what was up there. Colors at altitude in WV are going off right now, Canaan Valley is insanely beautiful at the moment.
Our campsite:
Early morning, this is a rather picturesque little barn:
Purty:
I didn't mess with the saturation sliders- the colors are right out the camera and match what my eyeballs saw. The colors up there are nuts this year:
I love it when the ferns change color, providing a nice mix of brown, yellow, and green:
This is an "unofficial" trail- easy to follow in spots (like this), other spots require a little bit of track-hunting. Make sure you have map + compass (GPS helps a lot too):
"I'm just going to sit down if you're going to keep taking pictures"
This next set is all from a camping spot on the top of the ridge- at the top of my list for the next backpacking adventure:
moving on...
Collloorrrrrr
This is a pretty nice lunch spot...
Colllooorrrrr
Note how closely the color is tied to altitude...
This stuff is really pretty, but let's just say we were REALLY glad we wore our gaiters. Otherwise our legs would have been shredded:

More purty:
Still trying to figure out this night photography thing- have no idea how to get a good focus without the benefit of the moon. I thought this turned out kind of ok. That's Seneca Rocks in the background:
That be all. Hoping to do some more hiking in that area this fall...still need to scope out some ski projects too.

Boyee yuh got a sum purdy pics thair.
cool, it's like we have a smackdown between Colorado and WVa scenery. Keep it coming. The Rockies are awesome yada yada, but the Monongahela is looking pretty good also. I'm partial to the 2nd fern pic, the fireweed (?), and the night sky. That is really nice stuff.
