So on sun 10/17 after a huge burrito and snowboard talk in asheville I decided to drive up to cat to see what they did this summer. I hiked my fat butt up to the top of the quad and noticed a few things (besides that I'm outta shape)... I'm kinda a detailed person and from what i could see on the web cams all summer they replaced a bunch of pipe for snowmaking. Looks like they did a bit more than that.

I counted at least 7 new SMI Wizard fan guns (black) at the base of the mtn in the area replacing some of the relatively new (but heavily worked) Areco (red) fan guns. They were on new perches. the red Fan guns were moved all around the mtn basically replacing the old Lenko (?) Blue fan guns. With the pipe replacement it seems they regraded the (looking uphill) left side of bottom slope, almost all of lower oh my gosh (midstation down) and a bit of lower alley cat. They also took the time to put in plastic vertical culverts where the valves are for the snowmaking connections on the sides of the trails. Inside the culverts were a data line and power line. on the lower culverts they have some valves that look like they are part of an automated snowmaking system. these culvert pits were located where they would place the stick (air + water) snowmakers. They were adding a bunch of stick guns on turkey trot and seemed like more on alley cat. I would guess they bought 15 more of those this summer.

Also looked like they were ready to wire up the "newer" trails with lights for night skiing. No new lifts or anything but with all the improvements to the snowmaking system maybe that can happen in a few years from now!

Hopefully they can use all that snowmaking equipment really soon, i'm jonesing...

Thanks for the update, but all I see is a "X".

It'll be interesting to see how the regrading affects how the slopes ski. Can't wait to try it out!

Has thanked: 1 time

Coolbeans. Was perusing their website and noticed no more morning half-day lift tickets. If true- that sucks.
