I left greater Saxapahaw at 4:45 on Wed. and arrived Snowshoe a little after 10:00; good run in a packed civic that would save me a lot of gas in the upcoming 900 miles

Snowshoe was blowing

Trail count is padded by all their double named criss-cross trails so I found some short pieces of powder

and a cool new route

Left early for my next few nights accommodation ($22/nt)

Day 2: its a good looking start to a new day

Timberline: the base (photostitched)

the top

the center

the trees (already a lot of options)

I departed TL to finally make my way into some touring late afternoon. With my new used skins, homemade trekker plates, mild apprehension and total inexperience; packing all that I made my way over to Whitegrass.

The objective was to get to round top but attaining the set of trees in the midfield was near cardiac

funny, they didn't look so far away

But I got there then on to Round top

Looked over to Bald Knob which I would get to from the other side on Saturday

and made my way down

there they are again, sweeter from this direction

-- a truly satisfying run.

It was absolutely worth it

Back to Thomas with Wisp my plan the next day

Sweet pictures. How great is a duck rabbit after a day on the slopes?

Thanks everyone, this series of trip reports is important to me, I pushed to open up something new for myself -- and there are a couple of failures coming up but I'm still amazed that I don't regret any hours spent for minutes of reward. . . despite the fact I hate to hike

I'm starting Pt.2 now , and want to post it tonight because the last day, even though it was only 4-5 hours about Bald knob is a portion to itself

Trip reports are as much nailing your memory as sharing an experience

Nice pics and good TR. It looks like you got to ski some really good snow. Earning turns is very rewarding--keep it up!

David, did you know that High Country Weather used this pic as the Pic of the Day?
