TR: 5 mts. --- last part, broken bindings and Bald Knob
I left Wisp and made it back to do another tour of Roundtop from the whitegrass.
Got there at about 4pm headed up. Moving much faster now then my first attempt
Towards the top I took a straighter/steeper line and when my skin slipped, boot to ski exceeded 90 degrees, hit the fulcrum, and the trekenstien exploded
Still I had 500 vertical feet of new trees to ski down
And there was a band (Hogmaw) that night at the Fiddle
And I already had a PLAN for tomorrow
Sat. morning I bought a half-day ticket for $25 at Canaan Valley
parked at the lower lot across the road from the lot I was dropping into.
Lift ride up and two runs down were sweet
Anyway I wanted to drop off the back and talked to some patrollers -- they were surly, then friendly
In deep snow (may it ever be so) its tricky to find the entrance
but then you enter an amazing place
The run from the back of canaan drops into the Pipeline , at the low end of the saddle between Wiess and Bald knob, the view is spectacular, both directions,
But I'm heading left and up --
At the top You have to look around--
The trail underneath is windloaded and there's a great run beneath that
I screwed up -- I should have remained skiers left of the fence, and I certainly should not have blissfully bombed my way straight down
It was a long crab like walk over a couple of drainages. and a lot of terrain, also very beautiful, but I was to tired to enjoy it
Still live and learn, it was worth every moment
Here's a map of it all -- the short line in left foreground is whitegrass to roundtop -- and that is over 600' of vertical, just saying,
yellow is skins on and off or just pushing, red is serious ascent and blue is beautiful downhill

Way to get after it I always wanted to ski Whitegrass when I was in TN but never got around to it. How are the trees?
epic skinc material. I have also wanted to explore that trail but I'm not getting up there like you are, and I don't have trekenstiens. You must have fixed those overnight. Two questions - what is that new hostel you found, and did you meet those guys skiing ahead of you on bald knob?

Actually I couldn't fix them; all the skinning on that loop around Canaan was done locked in with my buckles loosened -- the boot-scoot-boogie -- I was wiped out and running on adreneline fumes by the end
Adding to that was the fact that close to the top of Bald Knob I detoured back down into some irresistable trees and had a tough posthole back to my route
I did meet that group they were skiing back down and then over to Whitegrass and they thought my route back to Cannaan was further down as well which turned out to be mistaken. But as I say it was still worth every moment
No new hostel info -- I was at the Purple Fiddle the whole time.

Really nice even in limited coverage -- my set-up was unwieldy compared to the true nordic that you see at WG; but in this early season powder I was glad to always be able to see my tips
I want to explore it all a lot more.
