So as I was saying, I drove up Hwy 100 not sure how far I'd go. The road was clear and skies beautiful. I passed a lot of damage from Irene, this house torn from it's home and floated downstream intact says a lot. I hope the people are ok and settled

So I went to Sugarbush, first view from the road

Sugarbush is a damn big mountain (two actually, I didn't even know about its sister Mt Ellen) 2400' vert and like all VT mountains, vastly underestimating it's acreage listed at 585 (maybe they meant hectares). Conditions had not changed, but it was groomer heaven --long beautiful runs

Some scenic pictures and some of the hike to extremes, amazing but still beyond my paygrade even with good snow

that is the Castlerock lift and runs, later when I got over there it opened briefly but it was thin and icy. One of the classic regions, sucks but maybe next time

MT Washington in NH back there

serious hike to **** back there

really great place but no longer quaint -- I paid $87

Drove out and picked my way thru Stowe, stopping at every non luxury B&B or Resort Lodge looking for anything less then $75. Long drive. Ended up here and stayed for three nights. She did me a favor I think.

Next Morning I took a shuttle bus up to Stowe, like I mean FREAKIN' Stowe!! so cool It had snowed 6-8 inches. Me and the shuttle bus driver talked the whole way up and she said she'd drop me where I needed to go, past the sunshine base, past the Gondola base, last stop at the Mansfield lodge and climb up the hill to the Front four quad.

I was supposed to say Hi to Ken (Her words--You will recognize him, he sits with some other old guys around noon at the Octagon and he has a white beard, but not a santa claus beard) I asked a lot of people if their name was Ken -- there may be more whit beards per capita there then anywhere in the continental United States

I'm still working my way thru the last installment. I've been home now for a few days.

After all the miles driving and skiing, it was great to come home

No regrets except my lack of talent compared to what I saw up there

Are you Summiting?

I heart Stowe. Very cool place, the soul of skiing with some long challenging trails to boot.

There isn't much more to say about Kmart--not my favorite mountain up there. You stand at Killington base lodge and you are ringed by a bunch of Sugar Moutains. Meaning only about 1200ft vert off of each lift. Some good runs up there, but no really long runs to be found. Plus the NY's and Beantown people ruin the vibe there.

Yeah, pretty much my impression from one day there. Won't be back, too many other good places to go.

Stowe looks like I need to visit there before I die...

I also lol'd about the line where you described a place as no longer being quaint due to the lift ticket price.
