Ski Southeast Messageboard

This is my first trip to Oregon. It is really a nice area. Timberline got 4 inches last night as I checked their site before heading up this morning.



I really had a blast today maybe my best day on skis this season. I even made some turns in the trees which I rarely do but they are spaced just right for me and the snow was like butter so that was fun. The trees here are different than what I see in Colorado/Utah lots of them have moss or some kind of fungus growing on them which looks cool. The fresh helped, but hey when you already have a 180 plus inch base....anyway it was in the 20's this morning got up to 33 up top and started to snow again after lunch! Carved up a ton of easy turn smooth turns on soft snow. I love this place. Basically skied the whole mountain today except for a few runs to skiers right where the lift was not open due to lack of crowds I guess. Never waited in a line. I am in heaven. Headed back in the morning and the forecast is calling for 100% chance of snow with 3-5 possible! EAT YOUR HEART OUT!

Yes that's true and its killing me. Trust me, I really want to show them off as it has been epic. I have never been able to figure out how to do it even after watching the tutorial. I am not quick to learn these things. I did take some decent pics but with the clouds i was never able to get a great picture of the summit of Mt Hood but some good shots of the rest of the rest.



It was really amazing how much of a weather difference there is just a few miles away from MT Hood I noticed as I drove to Mcminnville,OR which is about 90 miles from there and it is a completely different environment here. Headed to Portland tomorrow. I plan on exploring the Colombia River Gorge the next couple of days.

I got up to find 6 inches of fresh had dump on T Line overnight. Bought a spring pass as it was cheaper than buying 2 single day lifties even though this would be my last day-hey its got my picture on it making for a nice souvenir in addition to saving me 6 bucks.



The morning was epic with nobody here, but it started puking the heavy wet snow as the day progressed. By days end all my gear was soaked, but oooh, There were places to make virgin tracks all day-so many stashes and so few people making any. Never once waited in a lift line. I think there were only about 50 cars in the lot (if that) and some of those were employee cars, just surreal. I gave it up about 1:30 as the heavy wet snow was cement like. I really like T Line as it is perfect for an intermediate like me. All the employees were really friendly too. Timberline has lots of up and down rolling hills that I like. Not much steep stuff but that was ok for this trip, and hardly any moguls to be found which I like even better. Lots of good runs right under many of the lifts and gobs and gobs of cut throughs in the trees from trail to trail largely untouched. I really enjoyed an area they call the bone yard. I don't do terrain parks but they had a lot for that set if you were so inclined. The view of the summit at T Line is really cool when the clouds allow it. The 2 top lifts service wide open terrain above the tree line and the the higher one which is only open in summer services the permanent Palmer snow field. Yes they really ski through the summer up there on it-T line closes Sept 3 for about a month for maintenance-now that's a long season.



I really wanted to try Mt Hood meadows but maybe next time. Meadows is pretty big ski area and overall has more pitch than T Line. T Line is great for people who want to do a lot of cruisers which is what I was looking for. Still can't believe they have that much snow and that I got 2 great days this late in the year but this is nothing new for them. And did I mention it cheap? Start planning your late year trip now. And don't forget Ski Bowl (which is 5 minutes from T Line and Meadows is still skiing as well on the weekends with more snow still in their base than many places received all year. I love Oregon
