The End of an Era...We are Shutting Down the Messageboard

The messageboard is now in read-only mode and no new posts or topics can be created. We will leave the messageboard up for historical purposes, but you will not be able to make new posts or comment on existing ones.

We have started a Discord server and hope that you all will join us on there. Technology has changed over the years and maintaining the messageboard has become somewhat of a pain in the butt and Discord offers many features for users, the main one being a very polished mobile app.

We really hope you all will join us on Discord and think you will like the platform. Use the invite link below to join.

Best parts are when the one chick is rubbing her pus sycat and another one is trimming her bush. I guess that's what the blackcomb part is.

The long awaited WB TR...

We left out of Nashvegas on Southwest flying through Denver to Seattle. I had some FF tickets available from SW so it made more sense than flying through Vancouver (although it adds 2 hrs onto the drive time) and paying a lot more.

Uneventful flights, the flight between Denver & Seattle has some pretty nice views. On the approach into Seattle we passed by Mt. Rainer at an elevation lower than the summit, it is a BIG mountain. Driving through customs was an interesting experience. The drive up the Sea to Sky highway is gorgeous, I could have taken all day to make that drive but my passengers were ansty and tired of traveling all day. They just didn't get that the journey is a part of the destination. And they weren't happy that I had had their text messaging blocked before we crossed the border, FYI texting and data usage in Canada are outrageously expensive.

We missed the good weather (by my standards anyway) by about a week and got overcast skies with lows in the mid 30's and highs in the mid 50's in the village all week. Only a trace of new snow and that really doesn't even count. So it was spring skiing, really nothing off piste. Freeze thaw cycles dictated skiing the lower mountain early, staying on the upper mountain after about 11 and then downloading the gondola to avoid the slop at the base in the afternoon. I got to ski some decent stuff off Whistler peak, Jersey Cream Bowl, and Ruby Bowl, but no real gnar by any means. Took the family down the Blackcomb and Horstman glaciers, if you haven't been you have to hit the Blackcomb glacier but the slog out is absolutely heinous; about 3 miles of nearly flat, flat, and occasionally uphill runout in spring slush.

The Peak 2 Peak gondola is extremely bada$s. When I was there before transfer between the two areas was next to impossible but with the new gondola it's super convenient. So we skiied 4 days, my daughter and I skiied the Peak to Creek run on the last day and it was pretty special. A great way to end my season.

Pics up next.

One other thing, Whistler/Blackcomb (IMO) is hugely overbuilt. There are easily 5 times as many beds as there were when I was there in the 90's. I see lots of really good deals coming from there in the future, the infrastructure (air into YVR or SEA and travel on the Sea-to-Sky) to supply people to get there simply cannot fill the beds they have. I'm sure Christmas week will always be slammed, but other than that I would think you can always get a great last minute deal on a condo/lifty package. If everything is full, beware. You will see lift lines that make the Ballhooter line on a Saturday during Christmas week look short. Even as big as the mountain is they have twice the accomodations that it will handle.
