In the Fall, there aren't many better spots for mountain biking than Kenosha Pass. At 10,000 feet and flanked by aspen trees, the colors are amazing for about two weeks a year. Jason and I had planned a big ride to go both east and west from the pass, and all was going well from the parking lot.... until I hit a big rock on one of the first eastern climbs and broke my rear derailleur. From that point, the ride was essentially over since I couldn't pedal my bike. I removed the derailleur and the chain, and headed back (mostly) down to the car, two miles away. In the four miles of riding, we did manage to get some good shots of the trail and the amazing scenery. I forgot how beautiful that area is... I'll be back next year.
Pretty sure one of the rocks in this picture was the culprit that ended our ride:

Wow, that's a lot more blown off/past peak than when we were there a few weeks ago! Still super beautiful up there. We're probably heading down near Colorado Springs tomorrow to hike, and there's talks of camping down near the dunes in a few weeks and swinging through Durango and that part of the state on our way back up. We're thinking the southern part of the state should (hopefully) be a few weeks behind on the aspen than around Denver, but it'll be great either way.

Saxophone- you know that Durango is nowhere near the Sand Dunes, right?
I was up in Summit County today, and I'd give the leaves another few days before they're mostly gone. As for the southern part of the state, maybe another week, two max.

Haha, right. It'd be a fun little camping/hiking/road trip adventure. I've never been near any of that, and we'd take a whole weekend before winter sets in.

Did you kill the derailleur or the hanger?

The impact bent the hanger... but it forced the derailleur into the wheel and snapped the derailleur in half, basically. I actually had an extra derailleur hanger with me, but the actual derailleur was unusable. New derailleur has been ordered.

Damn. Was it the FS or SS that died?
