So.....since I and my counterpart had the day off today, and couldn't switch it for tomorrow, and both of us are craving a boarding fix, we decided to just drive up to Da Wolf this afternoon.

It was kinda crazy seeing the snow levels change the further north we went from Asheville.

Right outside of town...

Near the Rest Area...

Yep - the roads had been plowed...

Final road in had a few minor sketch spots but not bad...I was surprised how quick the road was getting covered when we left (it was about 33* and snowing)

Just dammit happy to be stepping out on SNOW! (it's the little things in life folks)

Trust me, we had our gear loaded up...

Serious drift action!

This doesn't really give you a good clue as to how windy it was up there, but dangit it wasn't nice!

Leaving...you can see some coverage showing back up on the road a little bit...

We elected not to poach (didn't feel up to a windy hike), and the coverage really was spotty anyway. I thought it was a better idea not to forfeit my season pass before I ever get to use it.

nice! more snow out of this storm than they got all last year.

my friend wrote to see if i wanted to skin up big bald. even if i had my boots back from scarpa i would not of gone. not enough snow for backcountry, at least not for me.

its a very unsettling feeling to have all this snow come in and not have my boots in house. yikes.

I will say the times I have asked the Wolf SP if I could ski a closed area that looked good to go they were accommodating. Don't know if they would be as forgiving if you didn't ask beforehand.

Thanks for the nice pics. It is a very unusual feeling to be up at the resorts before they are open. Your trip reminds me a little of when my family lived in Morganton. I went up to pick my skis up from Ski Country Sports, and I stopped by Sugar to take a look around. This was around mid October,1996, and while I was walking around the deck it started snowing. I'll never forget that day.
