My first day out this season. I considered Wisp, 7Springs and Snowshoe since I'm centrally located between them all. I chose 7Springs because it had most trails (43) open and prices were not holiday rate ($52). Got started about 930 when it was about 10 deg; the snow was hard pack so it was a fast track the first hour or so. As the temps increased and volume increased the snow loosened up and made for some great conditions. Here are some pics from the afternoon:

From the middle of Wagner looking down at Main Lodge

Most of the trails that were not opened had major snow whales with guns on. I expect more trails will be open for this weekend, including The Streets (terrain park).

If you find a place, make it a long weekend and hit Wisp.

Is $40/night ($45 double) too rich for you? Judy's Motel in Bedford is a mom&pop place listed by BK. 27 miles from Blue Knob, 53 miles from Seven Springs. Reminds me of the Hidden Valley Motel between Boone and Banner Elk.

Marzski, I think that's in my range, that would be fun

Year's ago when I thought I might make it up there Mello suggested a family owned plce that looked neat, but the messageboard blew up so I don't remember where now -- the small room w' full size hot tub I remember looking epic

I have had Judy's Motel on my radar. There are also some chain hotels right on the interstate nearby. Spydeetjb, did you feel like 7 Springs is vertically challenged? How about the terrain difficulty?
