From the spectacular accommodations at the Bojangles in Franklin NC....
I was going to do the usual get up early and get there for rope drop thing tomorrow, but then i saw the weather forecast and decided to just punch it up there after work this morning. Got there around 930 and because there were a lot of people I knew I generally behaved in a way that was endearing to no one.
Upper OMG is bumpy and it was nice this morning. As the day went on though the bumps slushed up and my knees were starting to go for themselves anyway. Additionally both sides were pretty bumpy by the end of the day rather than just skier's left. Alley Cat was terrific all day. I'd hit the spot behind the lift cabin and lapped it countless times.
The trees were good til about 1 or 2 pm when they started getting a little slushy and thin.
I had an epic close call with a snow boarder and loads of fun with my brother firefighters. Now on with the pics.
Looking at Cat from the parking lot upon my arrival.
Alley Cat this AM
Bumps on skier's left of Upper OMG. As the day went on both sides were pretty bumpy. Got a little slushy too.
Looking down Upper OMG
Looking down Alley Cat
Rock Island was looking good too
It's nice to know that if I decide to patrol that I won't be the biggest guy.
Because Beau is a new skier he naturally brought his Realtree. He ended up doing great and was skiing Alley Cat toward the end of the day.
Hey! Lets sit right where a couple trails merge!
Remember Beau? He lost a ski. He found it but it was a good ways away.
Weather starting to roll in
The guy you see waaayyy down there lost his $%^$ing pipe and was letting everyone know.
This is the guy that relieves me in the morning at my station. Him and his buddies are very possibly the only 4 people who ski from Oglethorpe County GA. He's also related to my wife.
The day's vid
Here's a surpirse
