Richmond is awesome, we had a great time. Three epochs of industry and transportation on top of each other:

The Capitol is beautiful and austere --- oh right it was designed by Jefferson --- instead of Paul Bunyan or Liberace --which is what most of us got stuck with for our Statehouse

One thing -- to enter the capitol building designed for the state of Virginia but a gift to us all as Americans -- to approach it now you have to go thru a long underground tunnel. Jefferson intended and designed his structure to be approached from above ground and through the great front entrance. He would be disgusted to see the main entrance underground

Half of my relatives live in Richmond, so I've been there a bunch. After reading Killing Lincoln recently, it hit me how much of American history took place in that area. It's pretty neat reading about the final battles of the Civil War and realizing they happened 20 minutes from where my grandparents live.

Richmond is 1 of my favorite places to visit for a quick weekend getaway. it's got that pseudo North East feel but it is still distinctly southern. the downtown area is a great place to hang out and bars and restaurants are incredible. All this with a great music scene taboot. I'm headed up to see some friends, go to toots and the maytals and then get down with orchard lounge late niggt at the canal club. I like to stay at the crown plaza, great location and views of the capitol ftw
