For Memorial Weekend we met some friends at the Tarryall Reservoir in the middle of the state. Guanella Pass had just opened Friday so we had to take the long way out. I only had the P&S so a lot of the shots aren't very sharp.

Saw a bunch of these guys on the way up the pass.

Fun roads.

These next few were at Clear Lake towards the top of the pass.

GOLD!

At the top of the pass. Still some snow left.

Tarryall Reservoir is normally packed since it's free to camp and it's one of few lakes/reservoirs in the state. Our group was a few miles from the reservoir, but the view was spectacular. I believe that rock is called Eagle Rock.

This is an $8,500 rifle that's good to over 1,500 yards out. I could hit 500y but not 750y. Kim hit 750y on the first shot. The rifle was setup foot someone a foot shorter than me so that's my excuse.

Nice pictures, looks like a fun time!

But... why on earth did you go over Guanella Pass to get there? Did you just want to take the scenic route?

Next time you're up for it, Squaretop Mtn is a good hike from the top of Guanella Pass.

We'd wanted to do Guanella Pass since we found out about it last year. I doubt we'll ever do it again since the road turns to dirt on the south side of the pass and it's pretty rutted out for much of the way. If anything we'll go up and down from Georgetown only.

We took 285 back and it was much quicker. Didn't have time to do the Kenosha trail though.

That's what I'm saying... from G'town, go up to the pass and hike Squaretop. It's a 13'er opposite Evans and Bierstadt (the trail starts straight across the road) and the views are pretty outstanding. There are a couple of lakes about 2 miles in that are worth it even if you don't make it up to the top.
