I'll let the pictures do the talking... my wife and I were in Kauai for nine days, spending most of our time on the North Shore. If anyone wants recommendations or advice on where to go/stay/things to do, I'm happy to help. East Coaster was also there the week before me, so you've got a couple good sources of information.

Hanalei overlook:

SUP'er in Hanalei Bay at sunset:

Kilauea lighthouse (I have more of this location in better light, coming later):

Secret Beach:

Secret Lava Pools (north side of Secret Beach):

Hanalei taro fields:

Passing rain showers:

Sunset over Hanalei Bay with the Napali coast in the distance:

Rainbow over the taro fields:

Incoming rain showers, from the top of the Oko'lehao Trail:

Hanalei Bay from above:

Donkey Beach, about five miles north of Kapaa:

Rainbows at Ke'e Beach before hiking the Kalalau Trail:

One of my favorites, more rainbows over the Napali coast and Hanakaipai Beach:

More to come in a few days...

The color of the water in the lighthouse shot is ridiculous, seems unreal.

What's the hiking like to the highspots is really overgrown or rocky scramble?

And who is this East Coaster that you mention? the name is vaguely familiar

D- the hiking was really, really steep and really, really slick. It rains in the mountains on Kauai ALL the time, so the mud is pretty slick and the trails are steep. That being said, they're also very well-built and taken care of- not really overgrown at all. This picture should give you an idea of some of the stuff we hiked- my wife is literally 20-30 feet above me in this shot:
