this is a delayer TR from 8/31/13
Well since the weather sucks for skiing and it's been warm and rainy it seems like a good time for another kayaking TR since there aren't any ski TR's to speak of. This is from the Cheoah river west of Robbinsville, NC. It's real close to TN along hwy 129. The cheoah Dam (maybe calderwood dam?) is the Dam that Harrison Ford jumped off to escape Tommy Lee Jones in THE FUGITIVE. It is seen from the bottom of the run. Cheoah is a great 9 mile long roadside run with very good continuous rapids. It's a grade harder than Ocoee with several solid class 4's. It's dam controlled and is released about 18 times a year. Sometimes it runs after a big rain.
Our group of 7 was mostly all UGA students, and 5 of them were first timers and we had no swims! We did 1 full length lap and then a 2nd lap of the lower section where most of the good rapids are.
Cheoah
Walker at Bear creek
Loading up for the boof!
William's first time. He went into the seam and disappeared
Brooke's first time too! She was a little surprised to see the ledge between drops because Cas told her "after the triangle rock theres a nice little pool and then another 6-7' drop". Wasn't quite what she was expecting
Jeff's first time
