The annual pre-xmas trip with friends.

Drove up Saturday, exactly 6 hours to the Shamrock, found some drizzle, good snow, and hit 8 laps on cup run. It took 3 laps to remember how to ski half good. Returned to condo for new bottle of Maker's Mark with friends, and then 3 hours of night skiing with the kids. all in all, good day.

Sunday was strong gusts and rain. Screw skiing. Drove up to the Brazenhead Inn and visited the Robert E Lee statue in Mingo Flats. Returned to ghost town. Snowshoe lost power to everything south of Shamrock, including the village and lifts. I can't believe they don't have one freaking bar with a decent generator - major lost revenue opportunity. Dinner with 14 down mountain at Brandi's. All power apparently back on by 10 pm. Maker's Mark half gone.

Monday was fab, drizzle turned to snow in the mid afternoon. Spent all day in the basin with friends and kids. Best innovation is the waffle cabin. Maker's Mark nearly gone.

Tuesday, pack and go, road to Cass was a sheet of white ice. Always tune to AM 1370, Allegheny mountain radio, broadcasting from the Frost, WV studio. Flurries ending at Roanoke. Arrive home, buy more wine, setup for Santa.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Dave what about the gear? How did everything work out -- and are you settled into the BD's?

Gear Report.

- BD Kilowatts (185 length) are still great ice coast skis; stiff enough for hardpack, wide enough for charging, and still lighter than any other alpine skis I've tried. They would probably like to spend more time off piste, but we are what we are.

- The Jesters did their job. I fell twice and one or the other side ejected each time, at din=10. My knees say thanks.

- The Volkls I sold last week were well used and appreciated. I am always happy when bindings I re-re-mount don't injur someone else :).

- the Ground shell has finally met it's fate after about 8 years. I can see through the threadbare spots on the shoulders now. Still, I did not feel wet, though I only skied in drizzle. I ordered a new shell today. I might cry.

- I saw not one Telemark nor any AT bindings. Not one. weird.

- Waffles make a great on-slope snack.

- Honda Odyssey still a great ski truck.

- Good whiskey soothes sore muscles.

I think that's it.
