It snowed Friday night. They blew snow all Friday night and Saturday morning. I got up early and headed up for rock star parking and first chair. It was a lot less crowded (busloads of church goers hate skiing when it's cold....) and the people watching wasn't as good as it has been in recent years.

This was made up by the fact that I had Mogul pretty much to myself and if you stayed on skiers right you got fresh powder (combo of man made and natural) until about 11 or so.

Man Made Blizzard in the AM

First Chair.

The only decent people watching was the Marlboro and Camo family.

The sun came up.

There was some good carnage here as the day went on, tragically it escaped my still photos.

If you stayed to skiers right you had some pretty nice snow til 11 or so

Surveying the carnage on Mogul

Here's a vid,in stunning HD of course :)

depends on the tune....see if the song you want to use appears on youtube. If so, it's good to go. Most of my mp3collection is ripped from youtube these days anyways via things like video2mp3.net

I gotta check this place out one of these days.

3.5 hrs as long as the weather agrees (newfound gap road is open....) I could day trip it but I about never do. If I am in the area anyways and or I have a good cheap hotel room with all sorts of free snacks and an indoor pool I dont see much point.

An overnighter might not be a bad idea. Any cheap lodging recommendations?

I always stay at Zoder's inn. Indoor pool, hot tub. Free breakfast, wine and cheese (3-5pm) and cookies and milk (8-10).

The least expensive rooms on a weekend are 89 bucks. You can find way cheaper in Gatlinburg but that's where I like. Motel 6 for example is 39 dollars.

Also, Mogul is their best run, but with you being a snowboarder it may not be all that enjoyable thereby negating the main reason for the trip. It's usually only groomed around MLK weekend.
