My first (and only) day at Jackson Hole was pretty awesome. This place is badass. The mountain is HUGE. Everything is so much bigger and steeper than what I've ridden in Utah. It really is an amazing place. Here's some pics from Monday morning. They were reporting a few inches, but that was an understatement if you ask me. Lots of knee to thigh deep stashes in the morning. They had gotten over 2 feet in the 3 or 4 days prior to us arriving.
The view from our porch on Monday morning was awesome. We stayed at a place called The Aspens. It's a 5-10 minute shuttle ride from the mountain. I highly recommend this place.

We were stoked when we got to the gondola. It looked so awesome from the bottom.

I like gondolas.

The first two runs were awesome. We traversed a bit and found some good stashes. Lots of faceshots and wooping and yelling. Then, near the bottom of the second run I tried to go up on a bank on the side of a groomer. I was going pretty fast and there were a lot of bumps that I didn't see. I proceeded to do some cartwheels.
I landed on my toe side pretty hard and jammed my left ankle pretty bad. I rode down and it immediately started to throb. This was the beginning of the end.
We then took the tram up to the top. The tram ride up is pretty intimidating as the cliffs at the top are HUGE. We got off and THAHATTER and I split off from carvebeast and Marshall. They dipped just on the other side of the boundary and I wasn't feeling it. Mike and I found some fun trees at the top.
We then came out on the Hobacks. This area is challenging for snowboarders as it's never groomed and can be pretty bumped out. My ankle began to hurt pretty bad at this point but we made it through.

It took us 35 minutes to get down the mountain. That's how big this place is. We met back up with Tom and Marshal. Mike went off went them for a bit and I went inside to get some ibuprofen and I killed a couple tall boys. That loosened me up a bit and when I went back out we did some gondola laps and went through the parks and the halfpipe. I mainly just filmed them.
Towards the end of the day we decided to hike Casper. It was a pretty tiring hike from the gondola to the top.

But well worth it once we got to the top. Here's Tom gazing out onto Casper.

We dropped in and were treated to some deep snow. Here's the view when I looked down. Where's my board?
Here's what we came down.

It was sick, but my ankle was throbbing by this point. I had to stop every few minutes. We made it down to the bottom and I was done. I hung out at the Watering Hole for a bit and then could barely make it back to the shuttle stop. I used my board as a crutch. I didn't realize this was the end of my trip.
I sat out Tuesday and it didn't get any better. Yesterday (Wednesday), my ankle basically locked up on me and I had no range of motion in it and I couldn't put any weight on it so I went to the doctor and got a splint and some crutches. The doc said I probably tore some ligaments on the front part of my ankle and that's why I can't move it up and down. I'm hoping I can get back on the slopes in a couple weeks.
Today is the third day in a row of sitting inside. I leave tomorrow. I am so incredibly bummed but at least I got one good day of riding in. The fact that it was the best day in terms of fresh snow helps a little, but I'm still a little depressed. I've never been hurt snowboarding before, so it's pretty unfortunate that the first time it happens is on my first trip to Jackson on the first day. **** happens though and it could be worse. I will be back next year! This place is AWESOME.
